Ashley Pittman
Biography
Ashley Pittman fell in love with the landscape & people of East Africa while working for the Clinton Foundation's HIV/AIDS Initiative in Rwanda. It was here the idea for jewelry was born.
All horn products are from cows that provide nourishment & livelihood to the Luo & Luhya tribes who raise them in northern Kenya. The Jua Kali workshops carve the horn & employ artisans from a Luo women's cooperative. Stones are mined in Africa using only fair-trade operations & are shaped & set in Nairobi. All artisans are paid a fair wage, benefits, can plan for school fees, health care & pension plans.
Your purchases not only support Kenyan artisans & their families, but The Ashley Pittman Foundation donates 10% of all profits back to Kamboo, an agrarian community that has lost all means of income & sustainability over the last four years.
