Biography

A native of Santo Domingo Pueblo, Joseph Coriz is best known for his storyteller overlay jewelry. Fine petroglyph designs in silver, often with the turtle or corn, one the symbol of earth creation & the other of prosperity, make Joseph's work very recognizable. Joseph Coriz is a self-taught artist who developed his own style as a way of differentiating his work from others. He uses predominantly pueblo symbols in silver overlay & stamp work with 14k gold accents.

Born in 1958, Joseph has been making jewelry for nearly 30 years. He first put his talents to work as a draftsman, but apparently the work was too confining. He soon followed his parents' lead, who were both acclaimed jewelers. Nearly 3 decades later, Joseph Coriz has been the recipient of numerous awards from the Eight Northern Pueblos Arts & Crafts, New Mexico State Fair, Santa Fe Indian Market and the Heard Museum Art Show. Joseph lives with his wife Corine Lovato & their two children.
