Born in Keams Canyon, Arizona in 1957, he married his wife Marian, a Navajo silversmith in her own right, whom he credits with teaching him. He divides his time between his workshop & the rodeo circuit where he has won awards in team roping since 1983. A quiet, spiritual man, Leonard Nez says his inspiration is from the Lord & that sometimes design ideas come to him while he is in church. "I want each piece to be better than the last. I do my own designs, the ones that speak to me", he says.
